The Clan MacLeod Migration Project
RETURN TO THE MAIN PAGE
Clan MacLeod is one of the most cohesive and close-knit clans of the Scottish Highlands and the Western Hebrides.
The sons and daughters of Leod, however, have spread around the world, with MacLeod families and septs currently living in every continent, every country, from the MacLeods of Skye, Harris, Lewis, and Raasay, to the MacLeods of Glenelg, Assynt and Coigeach, to Australia and New Zealand, to South Africa, to France, to Holland, to Poland, to Russia, to Norway, to Peru, to Canada, to the United States of America.
Scions include Nobel Prize Winners, courageous soldiers, explorers, inventors, musicians, artists, physicians, physicists, entertainers, cinematographers, and more.
The Associated Clan MacLeod Societies has, for the past four decades, been involved in one of the most ambitious projects of its kind -- tracing the movements of the children of Leod worldwide -- the CLAN MACLEOD MIGRATION PROJECT.
If you bear the surname MacLeod, or any of its spelling variants, or any of the septs of Clan MacLeod, or are descended from a MacLeod or Sept, we want to include you in this international project.
It is the largest Clan Rising in history. This database is only the beginning! We need, we crave, we want, we demand (do you get the message?) your family ties to our illustrious Clan! We will accept your information in any form, with or without documentation, via e-mail, snail-mail, carrier pigeon, fax, pony express, ship, airplane, balloon, satellite, in any language, in any script, in any alphabet.
However, we DO have our preferences: if you have been exploring your genealogy for any length of time, you no doubt have discovered the joy of using computer genealogy software. The fact that you are reading this introduction on a computer suggests that you have at least a small modicum of computer savvy.
SO-- our preferred format is GEDCOM. Your software documentation will describe this in detail. Attach your GEDCOM to your e-mail response to this call to your roots and send it to our Genealogy Coordinators, and, voilá, you have become a part of this monumental project. We would also appreciate it if you would follow our documentation standards, too, as much as possible.
An important part of this MIGRATION PROJECT is the DNA Study. Using the latest in genetics research, we are proving our lineage to ancient historical times. You may participate, too. Go to the Family Tree DNA website for full details.
However, if we find that we need more information from you, we will contact you (assuming that you have already contacted us, and have not changed your e-mail address without telling us).
If you find any mistakes in this database, let us know about them with the proper corrections (and documentation).
Come back home, kids! Your family awaits you! The Clan calls! Follow the footsteps of your forebears around the world! We want to know you! Join our Migration Project!
