Norman, Dr. Alexander Morrison's eldest son (5th in direct descent from
Donald Morrison, the Skye progenitor of the family), was an Ensign in his
father's company at the battle of Moore's Creek. After the battle he was
allowed to return home, but in April 1781, having shown sympathy with
the "Royal Cause," he was forced to leave North Carolina, and made his
way back to Britain, where he joined his father. From extant letters, it
would appear that his father sent Norman back to his mother and sisters
in North Carolina in order to get them "under British protection." On
arrival in North Carolina, he began teaching, but what happened to him
afterwards is not known. All we know is that he and his three brothers
remained in North Carolina, and possibly some of the Morrison families
there now may be descended from him or his brothers.
